THE BENEVOLENT INSTITUTION.
To the. Editor of (hr Evening Star. Sin,—ln the local concerning the benefit tendered by the Garrick Club to the Benevolent Institution, which appeared in last night’s issue, .vd in that portion of it containing statistics I notice an error which is likely to mislead the public. The numbers of the inmates and of persons receiving relief arc not for the “eight months,” but refer to those in the Institution or on the relief list on the 31st August last, and the average weekly sum disbursed is during the month of August only. Upwards of five hundred have been relieved since the commencement of this year, at a cost of something over L6OO ; a sum equal to the aggregate of subscriptions during the same period. By inserting this correction you will greatly oblige, J. A. Webb, Secretary.
