THE PELICHET BAY BATHS.

To the Editor of the Evening Star. Sir, Some two months since I wrote respecting the above named baths stating the way in which 1 perceived they were going to ruin from want of attention. I revisited them the other morning, and was surprised to find that they were in even a worse state than formerly, in fact, sir, it would prove dangerous for a person to take a “header” now, as there are several posts

and one or two bars of iron sticking up, which at high water are completely covered, and if a person were to dive on to one of them it would prove instantaneous death. I notice that Mr Wilson has retired from them altogether, and since his retirement, the baths have become the rendezvous for all the young ruffians in that part of Dunedin. Now, surely, the policeman on duty might find time to visit the baths at least twice a day, and by so doing deter the youngsters from doing any more damage. Our worthy mayor, Mr Fish (he ought to be, for his name so indicate-, fond of taking a dip in the “ briny deep, ” and I have no doubt be well knows the benefit of ablution in salt water) should interest himself in this matter, and so lead the Corporation to do something. _ It will be a long time yet, ere the Corporation Baths, as proposed by Mr Walter, will be carried into effect and completed, and until then I think, sir, the Corporation should keep in good repair those wo have, until better ones are given ns. Yours, Ac., Q. P. S. —I hope some other gentlemen interested, will give their opinions on tho subject. August 24, 1870
