PORT CHALMERS WATER SUPPLY.

To the Editox 0/ thp Evening Slav, Sir,—» Your leader of last night in rcfc« rencc to a water supply for Port Chalmers; appears not only to me, hrit to all the rightth nking members of the community to have been very opportunely written and much to the point, and more especially so at this moment when his Honor the Superintendent’s motion on the terminus for the San Francisco mail service is upon the eve of discussion, What a handle it would bo for those who are opposed to the progress of to say that the steamers could not, bo watered here, except at a moat exhorbitant rate of charge and under great difficulties by the present system, c .using much annoyance and unnecessary delay. But ! believe any parties who have boe.ll hitherto opposed to such a scheme now really see the matter in its proper light, and are willing that a proper supply should at once be brought iu to the Port. His Honor no doubt will be duly advised as to the deliberations of the Council and Water Committee op the matter, an soon as their ideas are formed on the suhjeot, and I have 110 doubt but that water will be laid on here by the Corporation before even the graving dock is-finished.
