Tms Day. (Before his Worship the Mayor, and Thos. Dick, Esq., J.P.) DRUNKENNESS. Wm. Crawford, who did not appear, had his bail forfeited, and John Dale, against whom there were several previous convictions, was lined L 5, or 14 days imprisonment. VAfJRANCY. John M'Grath was charged with having no visible means of support. From the evidence, it appeared that lie had been discharged from gaol about a fortnight ago, since when he has been loaf ng about. This morning he went to a stable in Walker street, and took therefrom a horse belonging to Mr Josling, butcher, with riding which he appears to have amused himself for a couple of' hours. Upon returning it, he stated he had permission from a Mrs Price to use it; but on enqu’ry, this statement proved to be false, When arrested, lie was found secreted in a hole in a lane off Maclaggan street. Two previous convictions for forgery were proved. As ho stated he was about to obtain immediate employment, the case was remanded for twentyfour hours to enable him to produce evi leucc to that effect, ASSAULT. Alexander M'Crae pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness, and not gudty to a charge of assaulting Mrs Murdoch. It appeared that, at one o’clock this morning, he was found secreted under a table in a house in Canongate street, where the complainant was visiting, and, according to the evidence, without the slightest provocation, he beat h-r. He was fined 20s for the first offence, and a like amount for the assault. MINOR OFFENCES. Henry Taylor, for neglecting to keep a light burning over building materials in George street, was fined 10s and costs ; Wm. Richardson, for allowing the chimney of his house to take fire, 2s 6d.
