MAYOR’S COURT.
This Day. (Before his Worship the Mayor, I. N. Watt, Esq., 11.M., and W. D. Mnrison, Esq., J.P.) DRUNKENNESS. William Todd was fined ss. NEGLECTED CHILDREN. Charles W. Stilling and Frcdk. John Stilling, aged 12 and 11 respectively, were charged with being neglected children within the meaning of the Ordinance. Eor some time past the children have been cared for, under an arrangement with the father, by a person who, not being able to obtain from Mr Stilling the cost of their maintenance, this morning turned them out on the streets, where they were found by Constable Anderson, who arrested them as being neglected children within the meaning of tlm Act, part 2, section 13. It was stated that the parents of the boy’s father resided at Hokitika, and that he was in a good situation. After consulting, the Bencli came to the opinion that the charge must he dismis ed, but intimated that steps would be taken to have them placed in the Benevolent Asylum until means could be devised for their custody.
