Auckland telegrams dated the 25th nit., state, The barque Cantero was abandoned at nokianga. An enquiry was held to-day. William, (Djavidson, the master, said that the barque was27B tons, and was bound for Sydney. He had a pilot on board until reaching Harrows (Hokianga harbor). When abreast the, flagstaff the vessel struck heavily twice, and, water was made fast. The p lot left* the vessel, thinking , all was safe. He went’ashore tp make signals for the guidance of ihe ship. When she reached the breakers’6n the oar, the vessel again struck twice, and drifted to the beach at the North Head, close to the reef rocks. The vessel abandoned at daylight She was afterwards seen outside the bar—three miles by thedVlary Aun, ketch, which took possession of her ] but handed the vessel over to the pilot; leaving a man in charge. The enqUifjr was adjourned until the arrival of the Cantero, now on her way hither.
