MAYOR’S COURT.
This Day. (Before I. N. Watt, Esq., 8.M., and F. Fulton, Esq., J. P.) drunkenness. Bridget Kane was sent to gaol for three months, for being a habitual drunkard. THEFT. Daniel Mann, arrested on a warrant issued by the St, BaP'-m’s bench, was brought up charged with sudsing a quantity of wearing apparel at St. Bathans, and on the application of the Commissioner of Police, was remanded to that place. OBTAINING- MONEY UNDER FALSE PRETENCES. John Murphy, on remand, was again brought up charged with imposing on Robert Fenwick, hotelkeeper, East Taieri, by means of a valueless bill of exchange. The drawer of the bill, Mr Julius of Tokomairiro, gave evidence ; and stated that the bill which had been paid had been lost by him. The prisoner was sentenced to six months imprisonment with hard labor. NEGLECTED CHILD. A child named Mary O’Neill, aged eighteen months, on the application of the police, was sent to the Industrial School for twelve months. It had been left some four months by its’mother in tho care of a Mrs Griffith, who was to have received Bs. a week for attending to it, hut up to tho present time had received nothing. The mother was at present in Lawrence hospital, having been taken there from the jail.
