PORT CHALMERS.
NOMINATION FOR MAYOR. This Day. The nomination of candidates for tho Mayoralty took place at tho Town Hall to-day. D. Rolfe, Esq., Mayor, presided. The hall was filled, and a good deal of interest was manifested in the proceedings. The nomination papers having been opened, Mr Hugh M‘Dermid was proposed by Mr James Gordon, and sccon led by Mr David Low, neither of whom made any remarks. Mr Thomas Taylcr was proposed by Captain John Louden, and seconded by Dr O’Donoghue. Capt. Louden made a few observations, and remarked that Mr Taylers long residence at Port Chalmers, and his intimate knowledge of matters connected with the Coqjoration, rendered him more than ordinarily eligible for the office of Mayor. Dr O’DoNOiiiiui; endorsed the previous speaker’s sentiments, and defended himself froip some personal attacks made at a previous meeting by Mr M'Dennid. Mr M‘Dedmid and Mr Tavleh briefly addressed the meeting, and a poll was demanded by the former, Tho election will take place on the 21st instant.
