Resignation. —The resignation W Mr T. B. Ncilson of his appointment an a justice of the peace has been accepted. Intercolonial Postage.—The postage on letters to Western Australia has been reduced from 6d to 3d for every halfounce. The Mayoralty.—The nomination of candidates takes place to-morrow at noon. Mr Millar, F.8.A., has announced his in. tention of contesting the election. Mayor’s Court. The business transacted at this Court to-day was unimportant. Jaa Cook was fined IGs and costs for allowing cows to depasture within the town limits ; and Wm. Allan, 'JOs and costs, for allowing a bull to be at largo. Country Municipalities. —Outside Dunedin the elections for Mayor appear to be creating considerable interest. At Fort Chalmers. Messrs M'Dormid and Taylor have come forward; at Milton, Mo'srs J. Goodall, A. D. Duncan, and E. Stewart (the present Mayor); and at Waikouaiti, Mr 1. S. Pratt has come forward. Earthquake.—A slight shock of earthquake, accompanied by a loud rumbling noise like thunder, wa felt at the Teviot at about a quarter-past throe o’clock on Sunday afternoon last. The noise was heard frequently during the day, but unaccompanied by any further shock.
