Election for Mayor. —The nomination of candidates takes place on the 16th instant. City Council. —At this afternoon’s meeting Messrs M. W. Hawkins, J. Holman, VV, Blair, and J. P. Millar, were appointed returning officers, and Messrs Merry. Bayliss, Hughes, and M'Leod pollclerks at the forthcoming municipal elections. The gas committee recommended the adoption of Mr Hutchison’s tender for a year, provided he would agree to light at the cost per lamp he asked, the minimum number of 230 lamps, instead of 288. MrHutchisonwroterefusingto comply. The tender for the 288 lamps was accepted. The Finance Committee recommended the payment of LlO to Mr L. Solomon, and endorsed the action of the Town Clerk in the matter of advertising.
