RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Tins Dat. (Before J. Fulton, Esq., E.M.) CHAROK or ASSAULT. Mackenzie v. Tomlinson. —This was a charge brought against the prisoner on the information of Mr Mackenzie, who in consequence of some dispute about wages was savagely attacked by him, and severely injured in the eye. The prisoner acknowledged having struck the informant, and attempted to excuse himself on the ground of provocation. He was sentenced to a mouth’s imprisonment with hard labor. Fcrriman v. Francis Maule. —LI2 9s 2d, a claim for the value of a dishonored cheque amlex peases. Judgment by default for the plaintiff. Sband and Jawivson v. Manic.—Lß 17»
lid for good-* supp’ied. Judgment by default for the plaintiff. G. and R. Tilbury v. Yates.—4s. This amount was paid into Court but as the claimants did not appear, they were nonsuited.
Munion v. Wills.—L3 10s. This was a claim by the public crier for services rendered to the Bellringers who paid L2 10into Court. The dispute was as to the amount to be charged. Judgment for the amount paid into Court. John liempsced v. Thomas Montagu.—Lo 17s Gd. Mr Catamore for the defendant. L 3 7s 6d was paid into Court. The difference was about the measurement of a quantity of wood contracted to be cut on behalf of the defendant. The plaintiff' iu the course of the examination seemed singularly unable to explain the particulars of his claim, which was resisted on tho ground of stacking so as to deceive in the measure and of stacking unsaleable wood. Several witnesses were called who deposed to the defective stacking. Judgment;, L 4 12s Gd, with costa, including tho amount pnicl into < 'ourt. Two cases were struck off for non-appear-ance.
