BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.

[from our own correspondent.] Wellington, June 30. The Government policy is vapidly gaining amongst the leading members. The details are principally objected to. Messrs Gillies and Wood ridiculed the scheme, but had to withdraw from the position they assumed. Messrs Stafford, Richmond, and Fitzherbert defended the action of the Government in regard to passing the tariff. The Premier fixed Tuesday for the debate, and promised that if the House were adverse to the policy, he would recommend a dissolution after the new Representation Act had been considered. |n the House yesterday there was nothing important. In answer to. Mr Harrison |the Government said they had no intention of carrying on a further survey of the New Zealand coast, and when the Manukau bar was finished, Lieut. Woods would be discharged. Mr Stafford moved for a return of all persons drowned in New Zealand rivers since January, 1810. The general opinion is that the Goyermpent cannot parry theip financial policy. It is pousidered wild and visionary. The Opposition are confident. The Maori trials finished to-day. Four old wretches were discharged, the remainder were found guilty, and will bo sentenced on Saturday under the now act for the punishment of high treason.
