This Day. (Before A. C. Strode, Esq., R. M.) JUDGMENT. His Worship gave judgment as follows in the case of Dyer v, Sibbald, the points of which appeared in the Star of last evening “I have considered' qIL the points of this case, and have looked into authorities upon the question raised in this action, and have come to the conclusion that an action for damages can be sustained under the circumitances stated. ;The amount charged by the plaintiff,'however, of course cannot be allowed, inasmuch as a considerable portion of the sum is made up of items with which the defendant could not be chargeable, such as hire of h?»r«e, livery of Horse in Dunedin, tolls, &c. The amount I think fairly reasonable, and which would have been allowed by me if tbe case had been called on in the ordinary couTrso, is Ij4 lie, made, iip.asfollows ;—Four; ’days expenses, at I Os, D2q professessionat costs, Li's; coach fare, in and out, LI lOs- L 4 Us. Judgment for plaintiff, TA 11 s, together with costs.” LICENSE REFUSED. The application of John Dogherty for a slaughtering license in the Brighton district was refused. ■ .ASSAULT. Halliday r. Halliday—This was a charge brought by a wife against her husband for a brutal assault. The, offence was proved, and tlie defendant was lined L 3 and costs, and ordered to give bond to keep the peace towards. Mrs Halliday, himself in L3O and two sureties in Lls each, or to be imprisoned three.months. He, chose: the latter alterna-; five,.and wag committed. . ■ i
