The following letter has been handed to ns for publication ; “ Ashcroft, Esq,, M.P.C. of Otago. “ Dear .Sir, —Although I am not personally acquainted with you, I have seen in the newspapers your notice of motion in the Provincial Council of Otago regarding my little daughter, Martinetti Whitworth, the first child bora in Martin’s 8.-?y. I have also seen the withdrawal of that mqtion, because of the refusal of the Committee to support you in it ; and I cannot allow the opportunity to passwlthout expressing to you my own and Mrs M'lutosh’s best thanks for your kindness. Considering the Bufferings endured by Mrs M‘lnto»h and the baby, and in fact by all the children on that cold saudspit, from tho effects of which they have not all fully recovered even now, and upon wffich they still look back with horror; and acknow-
