In tlio House of Representatives yesterday, in reply to Colonel Haultain, Mr M‘3jean said that tl.c Oo\ eminent intended to introduce a Bill to amend the Militia Acts. Mr Stafford asked the intentions of the Government in reference to’ the matters of representation and colonisation. Mr Vogel replied that lie intended making- his--financial--statement on Tuesday next, and after that he would state the views of the Government on colonisation and representation.
Mr Fox moved the second reading of the Punishment for High Treason Bill, intended to do away with the barbarities of sentence. Messrs Travers, O’Neill, and Gillies spoke. The Bill was read, and ordered'.to- be committed. A long'discussion took place on the Vaccination Bill, which was read a second time, and referred to a select committee. Mr Mervyn introduced a Goldfields Act Amendment Bill, which was read a first time. Mr Hall moved for a return of the wool exported. _ * Mr Reynolds tabled a motion to abolish Provinces, and to constitute the North and South Islands separate Governments, with a Federal Union. Mr Harrison moved for a return of the appointments in the Civil Service made during the year.
