ST. ANDREW STREET.
To the Editor of the Evening Star. Sir,— Certainly the ratepayers of that portion of St. Andrew street between Leith and Cumberland streets must have offended some functionary of the City Council, else something would be done to make either the footpath or roadway passable to pedestrians. In rainy weather it is impossible for anyone to travel it without being immersed in slimy tilth to their ankles. Persons wishing to preserve the purity of their garments are compelled to make a very wide detour. Previous to the footpath being raised with clay at Reilly’s corner, one could pick his way with some semblance of cleanliness : but no gravel having been spread over it, this spot is a perfect quagmire at the present time. I am, &c., Cleanliness. June 7, 1879.
