EDUCATION BOARD.
This Day. The Education Board met this day at his Honor the Superintendent’s office. Present — His Honor the Superintendent, Messrs Reid, Duncan, Gillies, Mount, and Reynolds, and the Secretary (Mr Hislqp). The Sec rktary reported that applications had been received from twenty-eight c indicates for the Lady Priuoepalship of the High School for girls. Resolved that Mrs Ma'garet Burn, Principal of the Ladies’ College, Geelong, be appointed at the salary fixed of 1/250 per annum. The testimonials to Mrs Burn's fitness for the office were of the highest class, and from persons whose position gave them the best opportunity of judging. Twelve applications for the office of Governess were laid before the Board. It was resolved that Miss Annie M'Dougall be appointed. Miss MtUougall's testimonials were uniformly of a high character, and showed that she had been specially trained as a school mistress in the F.C, Training College of Glasgow, ami has since been remarkably successful as a teacher Thirty-four applications tr the of commer jal master at the High School were coifsidefgdThe Si'Cßetaey reported that he expected shortly to receive further information respecting one of the candidates. It was resolved to postpone the appointment to Monday, The Secretary laid before the Board plans and estimates for the alterations and additions necessary to adapt the south wing of the High School buildings for the High School for Girls. The plans were adopted, and recommended to bp laid before the Executive for approval. In consideration of the time required for the necessary improvements in the building, it was resolved that the business of the school shall commence in January. Tha Board adjourned to Monday.
