EVENING SCHOOL.

To the Editor of the Evening Star. Sir, —Permit ms to make a few remarks on a subject which though not exciting any public attention, is nevertheless an object of desire to many persons : I allude to the establishing of evening classes during these winter evenings. Many persons in their youn< r er days, compelled by the necessity qf paiuinptlmir uwn livelihood, had thq opportunity « gqibg''through the'qsual course of schoql training, hut having time at' their d's. pasal qii these Jong evenings, would gladly avail thqnselyes of tl\e benefit, of instruction in o’asses of an elementary and advanced kin 1, if efficiently conducted and moderately charged for. It is doubtless true that there are at present many night classes in the town, but these are either on special subjects, or the charges are too high to render them popu’ar. What I wish to see is this .- a good night school teaching the branches ordinarily taught in a grammar school. I do n >t think it would ho asking too much it t|i2 : <Cqiir ( ! cil vperp p vqtea Vn'afl tsm purpose- say to subsidise sueli an institution in connection with the Athomcum. I never was at school myself, sir, and the little progress I have made is solely due to my own exertions under many difficulties • no doubt there are many others in similar circumstances who would hail with delight the inauguration of such an institution as T have maned, and none ni re eagerly than ' ' Vonte, &G.J . * 1 May 21,1870.
