ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

This Day. j The Council of the Acclimatisation Society met this afternoon at the Resident Magis- ' trate’s offices this afternoon. Present Messrs Murison (in the chair), Eccles, J. T, Thompson, Hepburn, and Garrick. ' A letter was read from Mr J, Graff, offer* ing as a gift on the part of his father, Capt, 1 Graff, two hens and four cocks of black game 1 (Tetris tetrix), and asking if ptarmigan 1 would thrive in New Zealand. Resolved, that Captain Graff’s handsome offer to present the society with four cocks and two hens of black game (Tetris ietrix) be accepted with thanks ; and that Captain Graff be recpiested, if possible, to procure at the expense of the Society a farther supply of blaclc game (especially bearing in mind a further number of hens), and that arrangements be made for their being forwarded to London to the care of Messrs Sargood, Son, and Co., Moorgate street, in order that they may be brought out with the English birds, under Mr Bills’s care. That Capt. Graff be informed that ptarmigan would ip all proba, hility thrive admirably ip Otago, and are. very desirable birds to introduce, and that the Society would be greatly obliged by Captain Graff’s forwarding a fresh supply with the black game. It was resolved that the Acclimatisation Society of Southland be requested to join with this Society in procuring a supply of hares from Victoria ; that if upon enquiry it is found that hares can be obtained from that Colony, the manager be despatched at the joint expense of the two Societies—the number of hares brought over by blip tfl b® divided equally, in proportionate A letter was read, stating that the frogs pfesented to the Society last week from Auckland were the gift of Dr Hector. From Balclutha a telegram was received stating the pheasants were all right.
