[from our own correspondent.] Auckland via Wanganui, May 3. The barque Annie Main sailed yesterday for London with a cargo valued at L 40,000. The Evening Star has been awarded L 5 damages and costs from the Morning Advertiser, for wrongful conversion of exchanges. The City of Melbourne sails tomorrow for Honolulu, with a full compliment of passengers. A large number of passengers are booked for the next boat. Mr IT. 0. Meyers has failed for L 30,000. The monthly return from the Shotover claim [late Hunt’s] shows a yield of 480 ozs. Arrived —Phoebe from the South. Auckland via Wellington, May G. Auckland, April 29. Mr J. MacFarlaue, M.G.A. has accepted a Government situation as Trustee in Bankruptcy. Arrived —Fiery Cross from Lyttelton. Four men have been seriously injured at the Thames by a truck running off the line. The telegraph line between Auckland and the Thames is progressing. The natives have not opposed it. The annual report of the Orphan School is satisfactory. April 30. The ship Annie Main has sailed for London with a cargo valued at L 41 , 106, gold forming LI 9,499, llax L 3,225, and gum Ll(),107. A carter named West was thrown out of his cart and seriously injured. The trial of the Auckland-made ejector condenser on the new steamer Challenger was successful. Arrived—Queen of the Isles from Lyttelton. May 2. The Governor and the Native Minister have returned from the north. Numerous native meetings have been held, and the visitors, generally, well received. The shooting season commenced today. 259 licences were issued. Mrs Jones and her daughter were thrown out of a spring cart and severely hurt. An extensive hat manufactory is being commenced here by a Melbourne gentleman. May 3. The City of Melbourne, with the Australian portion of the San Francisco mails, has arrived. She brings 122 passengers. She leaves for San Francisco to-morrow. The Wonga Wouga has not arrived.
