Mr Porter’s tender for the first 56 miles of the North-Eastern Railway lapsed, as the deposit was not accepted. Mr Parkes’s motion for conferring a pension upon the widow of the late Mr Plunkett was negatived. At Bathurst, a man named James Wakefield has been sentenced to death for the murder of a shepherd near Mudgee. The wife of Alderman Davies of Rockhampton was found dead. Her husband, on being arrested On a charge of murdering her, confessed the crime. He has been committed for trial.
