The Emerald, ketch, Whitby, outward , hound foT Wellington, with a cargo of grain, got washed ashore on the south spit, when attempting to take the Kaiapoi bar on Friday mornikg last. On Saturday morning an effort was made to get her off, hut without success. Captain Whitby believes that with extra assistance she will be got off.
