MR. DRIVER’S MEETING AT MORNINGTON.

To the Editor of the Evening Star, Sir, —I remember when a lad of some ten or twelve years, I was entrusted with a gun to destroy the birds for my amusement, but I recollect I was not much edified thereby, I was provided with small shot dust, I think it was termed ; however, I remember the number of living birds was not much thinned by my sportmanship. But a brilliant idea suggested itself to my mind : I Would spend my pence upon small marbles wherewith to charge my gun, and then me. thought I would surely shoot them dead ; but, alas ! when taking aim at a bird on a tree, my charge of marbles went dead on against a hard old English oak, the marbles rebounded, shivered, and whizzed by my ears, and effectually cured me of my shooting propensities ; and I think, sir, that that charge of small marbles fired from a column of yesterday’s Daily Times by ‘ ‘ An Elector” will have a similar effect. The electors of Mornington, as a rule, know their own minds, and exercise their own will, and will be prepared to meet Mr Driver respectfully ; and I would advise “An Elector’ to sacri-

fice every other consideration for the sake of being present at the meeting at Mornington, that he may witness the effect of his own charge of small marbles. Multum in Parvo. April 23, 1870.
