In the course of his pastoral visitations, the Rev. Dr. Chalmers cal'ed upon a worthy shoemaker, who, in recounting his blessings, said that he and his family lived happily together for thirty years without a single quarrel. This was too much for the doctor, who struck his cane on the floor and exclaimed :—“ Terribly monotonous, man | terribly monotonous!”
