MAYOR'S COURT.

Tins Day. (Before his Worship the Mayor aud W. A. Tolmie, Esq., J.P.) DRUNKENNESS. James M'Donald was fined 10s, and Walter Rodgers, who did not appear had his bail forfeited. OFFENCES AGAINST THE BYE-LAWS. Frederick Clater was fined 5s and costs for driving an express waggon on which timber projected over the wheels more than two feet. THREATENING LANGUAGE. Hughes v. Pearce was a charge of this nature. It appeared that the defendaut had been cutting a tree, which it was alleged he had no right to do, and on being remonstrated with he threatened to break the complainant's skull and inflict other injuries of a serious character. He was fined 20s and COSt 3. THEFT. The defendant in the last case was also charged with stealing timber valued at 2s, the property of David M'Leod. This case arose out of the last one. From the evidence it transpired that the timber alleged to have been stolen was part of a tree belonging to the complainant and three other men, and from two of the latter the defendant received authority to remove some. The case was dismissed with a caution.
