THE LADIES’ VOLUNTEER PRIZE.
To the Editor of the Evening Star. Sir, —Several enquiries having been made lately as to what has become of the “ Ladies’ Prize,” and as I understand that with the exception of LlO, which was to have been shot for at the late meeting of the Otago Rifle Association, the balance of the fund has been or is to be invested so as to furnish a sufficient sum for an annual Ladies’ prize, I have to suggest that the above-mentioned sum, which, owing to his onerous and multifarious duties, our active Adjutant has lost sight of during the Rifle Association meeting, should be given as a prize to be competed for by the representatives from the other Provinces at the Colonial competition. I would further suggest that the entrance money paid by the seventy-six Volunteers who entered for the Provincial Government match might form a second prize on that occasion. This would be a graceful tribute on the part of the ladies to our visitors, and 1 am sure would be highly appreciated by them.—l am, &c., Running Jump. April 16, 1870.
