The stores of Messrs Brownell and Co., merchants ; Hill and Co., grocers; and Withey, butcher, were destroyed. The origin of the fire is unknown. Mr Brownell is insured on building and stock to the amount of L9OO j Hall and Co., stock L 30 0; Withey, building L3OO ; total damage, L 2,500. Geeymouth. Arrived Anne, from Dunedin ; south about after a ten days’ trip. Two miners, David Dick and Dugald Cameron, have been smothered in a claim at Carraboo Creek, New Hirer district. The weather is tine, gold is coming in plentifully, and business is brisk. Lyttelton. Arrived—Wainui from Dunedin, 1.20 p.m. Port Chalmers, 4.50 p.m. At the Heads.—Union, Bengal, from Newcastle. Arrived.—Fiery Cross, Flying Squirrel, and Margaret, from the Coast ; Ottawa, from Hobart Town.
