THE MAYORALTY,
(To the Editor of the Eveninq Star.) Sir, —Your contemporary, . the Times, has made two announcements about the Mayoralty. How many more candidates for the office the Times may yet announce is only known to that awful repository of civicandpolitical “backstairs” sec;ets. We certainly understand that our present respected Mayor has had another relapse, but it would be only decent to wait until something more can I e known. Why this indecent haste? To wait for dead men’s shoes is proverbially unpleasant, but it is also a well-accepted aphorism, “That threatened men live long.” The pa ratling of candidates for an office vacant in August on All Fools Day previous is an anomalous proceeding, and I trust your contemporary has not emphatically been “made a fool of.”—Yours, &c., Bruits.
