MAYOR'S COURT.

Yesterday. (Before his Worship the Mayor.) DRUNKENNESS. John Gibson was fined 10s, and W. Waddle not appearing had his bail forfeited; Peter Sherry was fined 40s, or in default 7 days’ imprisonment. On leaving the dock, he refused to pav the fine, and his manner being considered insulting, he ■was at the conclusion of the business again placed in the dock, and the Bench intimated to f him that unless he retracted he would receive an additional seven days’. He retracted, and afterwards paid the fine. MINOR OFFENCES, Peter M'Laugblan, for fighting in Walter street, was fined 40s, or, in default, seven days’ imprisonment; and a similar penalty was imposed on James Crawford, for using obscene language. The undermentioned persons, for allowing goats or horses to stray, were fined in the sums opposite their names, together with costs Michael Yaughey, 5s ; Patrick Parrel!, 3s ; Duncan Cameron, 10s ; Jas. Duncan, 2s 6d; Joseph Bradley, 10s; James Russell, 2s Gd ; John Campbell, L2 ; John Fletcher, L 3. Brown and Matheson, for not having a light burning over a temporary crossing in Leith street, were fined 5s and costs. Thomas Peden was lined 20s and costs for furious driving; and Alexander Robinson 40s and costs for s similar offence. J. M‘Cubbin, for allowing impure water to (low on to the footpath in Princes street, was fined 10s and costs. William Watts and Co., for neglecting to take out a building license, were fined 20s and costs. A charge of neglecting to keep a chimney clean, preferred against Henry Williamson, was dismissed with a caution. LARCENY. James Fonvar was placed in the dock on a charge of larceny as a bailee, under a warrant issued by the Canterbury Bench. On the application of the Commissioner of Police, he was remanded for a week, he being admitted to bail in his own surety of L4O and two of L2O each.
