(.'harks Riley' and Herman Crews wore fined 10s; and Henry Smith and Hugh Johnson were each fined 20s; Elizabeth Williams, not appearing, had her bail forfeited. BREACH OF THE BVE-LAWS. Francis M‘Gorr, for driving without lights, was fined 5s and costs.

William Henry (Jardwell, on remand, was brought up charged with embezzling moneys the property of his employers, Messrs Wilson and Birch. He made a statement to the fodowing effect:--On the morning of the 14th instant, he received the sum of Ldl 14s from Mr Morton. A short time afterwards ho called at the office of Messrs Wilson and Birch, and told both Mr Wilson and the •deck that he had received the money, lie Mien went oat to collect hut did not return to the other until after three o’clock, too late to bank, Subsequently bo went to a house in Maitland street, and had no recollection of what took place. Ho supposed that lie had been taken ill, and on recovery found be had lose the greater portion of the mon y. On the .Saturday he returned to town intending to seo Mr Birch at his office, and in the evening sent a person to his house to tell him that he would pay the money.
