MAYOR’S COURT.

Yesterday, (Before his Worship the Mayor, and H. Driver, Esq., J.P.) DRUNKENNESS. Harriet Farra for this offence, was fined 20s, or 48 hours’ imprisonment; Williaih Peid was discharged with a caution. INFORMATION BY THE INSPECTOR OF NUISANCES. Thomas Pavlfcich, for allowing a nuisance to exist on his premises, was fined Is and costs. ASSAULT. Henry John George was charged with assaulting his wife. The complainant told a most lamentable tale, the defendant having in August last, when she was a “respectable servant,” wooed and won her, how he afterwards maltreated her, and converted every thing she possessed into money to get drink. According to her story he was the worst of husbands, and she was in fear of her life from his brutal conduct. She prayed the Bench to afford her protection in order that she might again become “a respectable servant,” and ultimately be blessed with the sight of her “three sweet babes,” by a former husband. But the story of the husband completely changed the aspect of the affair. His account was that she was a drunkard, would not attend to her domestic diuies, and was unfaithful. The Bench appeared to think there were grave faults on both sides, and held that the defendant was not justified in striking the woman, and fined him 20s. It was afterwards stated that a short time since the complainant was charged with robbing a man who was in her company, and that she narrowly escaped conviction. This Day. (Before his Worship the Mayor.) DRUNKENNESS. William Spence, who did not put in an appearance had his bail forfeited, William Munro was fined 20s, and Samuel Farra was discharged with a caution.
