Cromwell, Wednesday, 1 rlo, p.m. Logan’s party washed up two thousand ounces of amalgam last night, from a crushing of sixty tons of stone. The supposed yield is ten ounces to the ton. Mallard was customarily good-tempered in the execution of his duty, and Scott was violent on this occasion, and wounded Erridge on the head. The magistrates retired to consider the charge against Erridge and Sullivan. At 4.40 p.m, thev returned into court, and discharged Erridge. The case against Mallard and Sullivan is proceeding,

His Honor tlio Superintendent has received a telegram from Mr Bonur of Hokitika, to the following effect. The survey party landed at Lake Kakapo on the ffStli ult. The steamer Charles Edward while returning to the mouth of the river struck on a snag and filled. The cargo, crew, and passengers were landed on the sand-spit. There are no appliances here to raise the vessel, which will be a work of time, and probably the cost of which will be LI,OOO. A message was sent via Queenstown. The river was too high and the messenger returned. The captain proceeds by boat to Okarita for help, and will return the first opportunity. The entrance to the river, is very good. The survey house is nearly finished and the other works are progressing.
