It is reported that the expenses incurred in recovering the remains of the late Mr Thomas Powell, who, with his wife and others were murdered in Abyssinia last spring, amount to more than L 15,000. Chiefs had to be largely propitiated by costly presents, and Egyptian soldiers bad to be employed in carrying out this mournful duty. One chief or sheikh, on being asked what form his present should assume, replied that he wished for the full uniform of a British general. His fancy has been complied with, and the cocked hat, plumes, sword, &c., are now on their way to Abyssinia,
