PRESBYTERIANISM.
To the Editor of the Evening Star. Sir, —Permit me, through your columns, to draw the attention of the members of the Presbyterian Church in Otago, but more particularly in Dunedin, to the conduct of certain members of that body, who seem regardless of what becomes of our Church, so that they can carry out their own particular and peculiar views, and who apparently desire to ride rough-shod over a whole congregation (as in the case of St. Andrew’s Church a short time since), forgetting that in all cases in the Presbyterian Church the majority of a congregation alone have the right to decide in matter.? affecting itself, whether in regard to supplying the pulpit or otherwise. The time has now come, 1 think, when it becomes the duty of every member and adherent of our Church to take a firm stand, and judge for himself or herself in all matters that may be brought before them, not listening, however plausibly put, to the idle tittle-tattle so freely indulged in and circulated by gpntlemen in the city, who ought to be above such unseemly, not to say unchristian, conduct—conduct calculated to drive from our midst many of our best officebearers and members, and also ministers, who have any self-respect, to seek employment in another and more Clnisthvn Church, where, at all events, justice will be done even to a In-other who may have been permitted to fall, but who, in the good providence of Cod, might yet bo instrumental in bringing many souls to Christ. 1 would just add that mmi ought to be careful in judging their brother men, and always loan to the side of mercy —in short, follow the example of our blessed Lord and Master in dealing with erring man.—Yours, &c., A Lover of J ustice.
