[trom OUR OWN correspondent.] Wellington, Feb. 15. A large fire took place at Carterton, Wairarapa, last night. Anderson’s saw-mills, and M‘Oormick’s blacksmith’s shop, were destroyed, and are uninsured. The bridge over the creek was also destroyed. Traffic has been stopped. The fire originated from burning felled bush. [Thu following was published by us as an “ Extra" to-day :—] IMPORTANT NEWS FROM CROMWELL. Cromwell, Feb. 15. 9.15 a,m. A new vein has been struck this morning in the Aurora. It is of extraordinary richness. Stone was being raised in bucketsful, the lead being reported to be two feet thick. The stone is a complete mass of gold. One piece exhibited in Cromwell has been taken out by Mr Feraud, the ex-mayor of Clyde, and vouched for.
