ADDRESS TO REY. FATHER LARKINS. THE following is a copy of the Address which has been presented to the Rev. Father Larkins, on his departure from the Thames Goldfield, after a short visit. The Address and Testimonial were presented in the Catholic Presbytery, Shortland. Present : Revs. Fathers Nivard and Mahony, and several friends, formerly parishioners and admirers of the Rev. Father Larkins . “ Rev. and Dear Father, “We, the undersigned inhabitants of the Thames Goldfield, New Zealand, entertaining a keen sense of our duty and your worthiness, most respectfully give you a hearty welcome to this district. Many of us, dear Father, have had the happiness of being your parishioners at the Waimea, since when we have treasured up with faithful remembrance the many salutary lessons you taught us, both by word and (example, concerning holy faith and dearest Fatherland. “We have watched with that filial interest, which your zealous teachings were wont to impart, the many humiliations that have beset your sacerdotal career since hard fortune has taken us away from your paternal protection, and we are proud to say that during all your trials and afflictions, you have been to the children of our dear, though afflicted, native isle an honored spiritual guide. Yes, dear Father, wo may truly say when you were reviled you did not revile, but gave yourself up to those who judged you unjustly. “ It may be to you, dear Father, an alleviation of those pangs which you must have suffered, to know that many of those who have misrepresented you, now regret their heartlessness, and time alone, the unerring recorder of truth, will place broadcast before the world your constancy as a patriotic priest, and your manliness as an Irish gentleman, We now beg yonr acceptance of this purse of sovereigns, as a small token of our esteem and respect for your office, and unblemished character ; and we trust, dear Father, that nothing in this world will ever estrange your sympathy from the struggles of your native country, or will prevent you from sympathising with the sufferings and wrongs of that noble people, who have through centuries of persecution and misgovemment treasured up, preserved, and spread abroad that holy faith, of which you have ever proved yourself a faitliiul minister. , “ Having heard, dear Father, of your determination to go to Romo to get redress for your many grievances, we regret that we cannot have the pleasure of having you amongst us for a longer period ; and now, on the eve of your departure, we wish you from our heart of hearts a sincere and faithful ‘Godspeed.’” [Here follow the signatures of the Committee. ] The Rev. Father Larkin made an appropriate reply.
