MAYOR’S COURT.
This Day. (Before W. H. Reynolds and A. Garrick, Esqs., J.P’s.) DRUNK AND DISORDERLY. C. Grey, an old offender, was fined L 5, or 14 days’ imprisonment. N. Binnie, fined LI, or 14 days’ imprisonment. STEALING FROM PREMISES. 'John Robert was charged with stealingapair of boots from the shop of Mr Hutchinson, George street. He pleaded guilty. Sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labor. Charles M ‘Bain was charged with stealing an augur and other articles, the property of Mr U’Rcn, contractor for the Wesleyan Church. The articles were identified by the prosecutor as being his property. The defence was that defendant had been working at the Church, and his own tools being at the Water of Leith, and having occasion to use an augur, he took the loan of one, with no intention of keeping it. His former employer gave him an excellent character, and stated that it was a common practice of the trade for one workman to take the use of another workman’s tools. Case dismissed, MINOR OFFENCES. E. Menlove was charged with allowing a nuisance on his premises in George street. Dismissed. N. Berrill, for a similar offence, was also dismissed. ALLOWING COWS TO WANDER, C. Bunbury, for allowing cows to wander, was fined 5s and costs. SLY-GROG SELLING. John Keith (an adjourned case) charged with this offence,’ was again brought up. The offence having been proved, he was fined L2O.
