Tapanui.—A correspondent writes —“ This district is going ahead. Herbert, Smyth, and Co.’s steam sawmills are in fuH operation, and the boiling-down and meatpreserving apprratus is rapidly approaching completion. At the mill there is an extensive American tongueing and grooving machine, driven by steam power, where over 100,000 feet of sawn timber is cut monthly.”
