HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC SPORTS.

'JLhere was a large gathering of persona on the North Dunedin Recreation Grounds this afternoon, to witness these interesting sports. The grand stand presented a brilliant appearance, and comprised the elite of Dunedin and neighborhood. We must, perhaps, admit that the Caledonian Society’s sports are more numerously attended ; but we may fairly question whether they excited a greater interest; and we are sure they could not yield more pleasure than to-day s entertainment. 1. 100 yards Hat race—Seniors (boys over 14) —Master Read, 1. 2. Throwing cricket ball—Juniors (under 14)— Master Weston, 1. 3. Standing jump distance—Seniors—Master T*hfo (Bft. 7in.), 1. 4. 100 yard? flat race—Juniors —Master Park, 1 ; Master Saoulaj.’, 3. 5. Quarter of a mile walking f ace - Seniors —Master Reid, 1. G. Running Hop, Step, and Jump Juniors—Master Park (covering 30ft. Din.) 1 ; Montgomery (29ft. sin.), 2. The competition for this prize was rendered additionally interesting by the boys making a ‘‘tie” on the tirst occasion ; the above being the result of the second trial. 7. Running High Jump—Seniors -Master Tame (4ft sin.), 1 ; Master Martin, 2. 8. Two hundred yard Hurdle Race—■ Juniors— blaster Barber, J'; Master Taine, 2. 9. Throwing cricket ball-—Seniors —Master Taine (73 yds) 1; Master Logan, 2, The games were proceeding when our reporter left.
