(FROM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Auckland, Thursday. The Superintendency election is virtually over. Mr Gillies is 42 ahead; ami large majorities in his tavor are expected to come in. The Provincial Council elections are now going on. Mr Williamson goes into the Council. A letter received here states that Mr Vogel will return in a fortnight, when the Intercolonial Conference terminates. An influential meeting of persons interested in the Thames Goldfields was held to-day to consider the present unsatisfactory system of mining management. At the Thames a committee was formed to prepare a report. Specimen stealing is largely practised on the diggings. Pour thousand ounces of gold were brought down from the Thames last night. The Una Claim has crushed 158ozs ; the All Nations, 480ozs from 44 tons of quartz ; and the Sunbeam, IGOozs.
