(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Auckland, via Wellington, Thursday. The Superintendency election is causing immense excitement. There were election disturbances at Shortland and Coromandel. Mr Gillies’s return is almost certain. He was 15 ahead at the latest date, and he is expected to have a majority of 40. (from a correspondent.) Auckland, via Napier, Thursday. The election for Superintendent has terminated. Mr Gillies polled 2,348 votes, and Williamson 2332 ; majority for Gilles 16. The returns from other polling places have to come in, but they are all in favor of Gillies but one. The election caused great excitement here. Gillies pulled up 260 votes in two days. Williamson’s party still sanguine. The hospital patients are reported to have been carried to vote for Williamson, If Williamson is returned the election will be invalid, through intimidation at the Thames and Coromandel.
