SUPPLY OF GAS.
To the Editor of the Eveninq Star. Sir,—lt is due to the consumers of gas to explain tho cause of the short supply last night. The person in charge of the works allowed one of the valves ef the gasholder to be interfered with, without previously taking the necessary precaution of cutting off the supply from the holder, by which gnussion the stock ' ' '
of gas in the holder escaped, and nearly every man on the works became overpowered by the intoxicating effects thereof. The engineer was speedily on the works, ami remedied the accident, but not soon enough to provide for the supply of the city last night. The employees, although seriously ill from inhaling gas almost to suffocation, are providentially recovering.—l am, &c., J. W. Hutchison, Lessee, Dunedin Gas Works, Per Ben. Willoughby.
