UMPIRES.

To the Editor of the Event;:, 7 Star, Si l ?, —l read with great regret the letter in your last night's issue, signed “ A lover of Cricket,” the more so, because it is currently reported the writer is a well-known member of C.C. Club, [ think, Sir, nothing is so likely to bring about the feeling he seems to deprecate, than the writing of such letters as the one in question ; and I trust this kind of talk—which if persisted in is sure to engender unpleasantness between the two dabs, fo the injury of cricket—will be nipped in the bud at once, 'Personally (and I am sure ?. large majority of the Citizens' Club arc of the same opinion) T do not believe

there is the slightest feeling of jealousy on the part of the members of the Dunedin Club against ours ; and I will also take this opportunity of saying that the Citizens’ have always been treated in the most kind and friendly manner by the members of the Dunedin Club ; and I beg to assure those gentlemen, that “A lover of Cricket” must not be taken as an expositor of the feelings of the C.C. Club. Trusting tha’ nothing further will he said or written, calculated to disturb that friendly feeling which ought to exist between all true cricketers.—l am, &c. Thomas Pledger, Captain of the C.C. Club. Dunedin, Nov. 12, 1860.
