To the Editor of the Eveninq Star. Sir, —ln the remarks on the cricket match played yesterday on the South Dunedin Recreation Ground, which appeared in your last eveping’s issue, the statement with regard to Mr Webb’s decision ip the case of Mr Hendley is certainly incorrect, as he was never appealed t. That respecting Mr Woodifield I have no doubt Mr Webb gave conscientiously ; at the same time, among those who were in the field, and in the best positioa to judge, it certainly appeared a catch. The Umpire has always a thankless post, and it is hard if every doubtful decision given by any unprofessional gentleman who may have volunteered his services, is to be questioned, both on the field and in the papers, and his name brought before the public.—l am, &c., J.
