THE CROMWELL REEFS.

Our correspondent at Clyde advised us by telegraph on Saturday, that Mr Pyke had “issued a notice prohibiting the sale of shares. ” By favor or the Provincial Government we give a copy of the notice, with Mr Pyke’s reasons for the course adopted ; “ Notice is hereby given that, in the event of any share, or portion of a share in any quartz claim held under protection certificate being sold, transferred, or publicly advertised for sale, the certificate will immediately be cancelled, and the holders of the claim will be compelled to put on the full number of men within twenty-four hours thereafter ; failing which, the ciaim will be forfeited “Vincent Pyke, Warden. “Cromwell, sth November, 1869.” “Warden’s Office, Clyde, “ November G, 1869. “ Sir—l have the honor to inform you that pertain speculators having endeavored to turn the recent disepyede? at Bendigo Beef to their own advantage, and in a manner calculated to jirevent the honest development of the district, by locking up ground for speculative purposes, and inducing a gambling spirit detrimental to the true interests of the Province, I have deemed it my duty to issue handbil's, as per copy attached, which will teud greatly to discomfit the parties concerned. And I also forward for your information a copy of a document (printed) recently circulated in this, and I fear in other districts also.—l have, &c., “Vincent Pyke, Warden, “The Secretary of Land and Works, Dupediu.” In the document referred to, which is

said to be “a public register of the reefs ” appear notifications that a sixth share in the Golden Crown Claim is for sale, and that “ LIO,OOO was offered and refused by Messrs Goodger and party for the adjoining lease.” Mr Pyke states that this latter statement is untrue ; as is also the statement that Barry and Co’s claim is on “ the same line of reef as Goodger’s claim, and that “ this reef, so far as yet developed, will run not less than 10 ozs to the ton, and the stone is rapidly improving.” Mr Pyke also denies that there is any truth in the statement made in the register that the Rose, Thistle, and Shamrock claim is “ on the same line of reef as Goodger’s.”
