(FROM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Cromwell, Saturday. There have been new discoveries in the vicinity of Bendigo Gully, and a rush is reported. A distinct line of reef three miles from Colclough’s prospecting claim has been found. The lode is said to be three to four feet thick, with gold perceptible through stone which crops out from the surface.
The town is quiet, but there is some excitement at the reefs.
Mr Pyke has issued a notice prohibiting the sale of shares. Wellington, Saturday. Auckland, Nov. 4th. Mr Gillies has addressed the electors in various places. Totes of confidence were passed. Mr Maclean has gone to the Waikato, it is reported to see Tawhiao. Fuckey had an interview with Te Hira.
The diggers have been persuaded to remove from Ohinemuri.
Mr Gillies’s party have projected a new evening paper. Mr Ellis, the late candidate is to be the editor.
3,500 ounces of gold have been received by the Bank of New Zealand from the Thames.
A crushing of the Dawn of Hope, of 300 tons, produced 44-4 oz. ; Wandering Star, 19 tons realised 46 oz.; Manukau, 200 tons, 482 oz. ; Mariner’s Beef, 78 tons, 126 oz. Scrip.—Belfast is held for L 3 ; Auckland Consolidated, in demand at 50s.
A new loader is said to have been struck. The Government has received information that Te Kooti is still at Taupo, hiding in the bush. He has no food but fern roots. His force is about 100.
The King Natives bar his road to Waikato.
Another party bars the road to Hawraki.
The Wanganui road is also closed. He is sure to be captured if resolutely followed up. Topia, the Upper Wanganui chief, has returned from Waikato.
A declaration against Te Kooti has been issued by the King, who gives him over to be dealt with by us. Topia proposes taking him prisoner to hand over to us. All up the river the natives will meet Mr M‘Lean near Pipiriki.
