CORPORATION CONTRACTS.
To tM Editor of the Evening Star. Sir, — A.s a hardworking man, and one who would work still harder if it were sible rather than grumble in a public way, yet when public functionaries through mere carelessness cause grievances to fall still harder upon us, I think it is a duty, not only for mvself but for my fellow workmen circumstanced like myself, to state that, according to the rules of our Corporation, I tendered for a contract, but not being successful I called for my deposit at the time appointed ; I however was quietly told that the .clerk was away one week upon leave, consequently I should have to wait till his arrival, as nothing else could be done save by a meeting of councillors. Now, if any other such contract were to take place within the time, I for one would not be able to lodge a deposit; I feel therefore that I should be subjected to great hardship by such an arrangement. By inserting the above simple and unvarnished statement, you will much oblige yours truly, William Simpson, Carter. Great King street.
