THE ENGLISH MAIL.
(To the Editor of the Evening Star.)
Sir—The Government has to a great extent ignored the right of the Southern Provinces to obtain despatch in the matter of the English mail monthly from Melbourne and Wellington. The English mail reached Hokitika on Sunday last, and yet has not left Wellington. Many hundreds of people here are int rested considerably in the punctual receipt of their letters from the home country, yet they are generally doomed to disappointment. Can you, Sir, inform the public bow this happens ? To me it appears that the delay is premeditated and committed purposely by the Government with a view-to insult the population of the southern portion of this island. Can you suggest any other reason ? Yours, &c.,
Fair Play. Dunedin, 1 p.m., 4th Nov., 1809. P.B. Perhaps the Superintendent and Mr Reynolds can inform me—“ P. P. ”
