Michael Connell was fined IDs or 24 hours’ imprisonment, for being drunk Against William Millar there were two charges : one of being drunk and disorderly, and the other of being a habitual drunkard. He was committed to gaol for one month with bard labor. OBSCENE LANGUAOE. Mary Ann Anderson was informed against by constable Baxter, for using obscene language in Walker street, on the 19th inst. Mi Wilson, for the defence, urged that the lammage complained of was spoken in a private house, and therefore not within the meaning of the Act. She was lined L 3 and costs. Minor Offence ■. The following linos were imposed ou the information of the police .-—James Townsend, allowing three head of cattle to wander on the main road, dismissed ■; Michael Scaiilan, for keeping an unregistered dog, 40s ; Willis n. Wren neglecting to keep a light burning on building material in Stuart street, dismissed with a caution ; James Hume, setting ibo to a quantity of scrub, not having permission, dismissed; Matthew Miller, driving a dray without proper reins, os.
INFOKMATIONS BY THE INSPECTOR OF NUISANCES.
Dalzicl and Co., driving across a footpath in the Octagon, dismissed ; for obstructing the footpatli by placing building materials without constructing a gangway. 2s (id ; W. Watts and Co., driving across the footpath in the Octagon, dismissed; William Colburn, and Michael 'Gorman, plying for hire at a place other than that appointed, os each ; John Holmes, plying for hire with an unlicensed dray, 2s (id. ■ INFORMATIONS 15V THE TOWN BELT RANGER. James Muir, for throe horses wandering, Is each. - Kelly, Patrick Payan, Timothy Hayes, D. Huberts, and John Fripps, were ordered to get rjd of goats by Thursday, otto bo lined 20s for each goat ; and Timothy Byrne was allowed a fortnight to get rid of one, or to pay a similar amount. AN UNSEEMLY SQUABBLE. Elizabeth Lowe charged Ellen Murdoch with using insulting and obscene language to her in Walker street. Mr Wilson for the prosecution; Mr Ward for the defence. Prom the evidence of the prosecutrix, confirmed hy a witness, it appeared that she had been to visit a chill of Inns at nurse, when the defendant assailed her with a volley of abuse and insult.
Evidence was brought for the defence to show that no such quarrel could have taken place, nor language umd, as the accused was otherwise engaged at the time stated. His Worship lined the defendant 20s and co^ts.
