(from our own correspondent. ) Wellington. Monday, 1.30 p.m. The Government received despatches from Colonel M‘Donnell, dated the 20bh. The Force is in motion again. From information received from tire men who surrendered, To Kooti is close at hand in the bush. He had sent the women and children further oil, which looks as if he meant to light. M‘Donnell’s men were at a place called Rna, and were in good heart, and well supplied. Mr Tiffen has come back to Napier, from Kaimanawa. He says the specimens are not from the reefs, but were picked up in the creeks. Several prospecting parties are on the ground, and great difficulty is experienced in procuring food. It is accounted premature to proclaim a goldfield. Mr TilFcu says there is no doubt that gold is there, but there, is much developing yet to be done. All the specimens found are in the Auckland Province, and a long way from] the Wellington boundary.

Bluff, Monday. The Tararua, James Hagley, commander, arrived from Melbourne to-day at noon, after a rapid passage of 4 days 21 hours. She left on the 20th ; experienced fine weather during the first part of the voyage, and thick southeasterly gules until off the Solanders. She brings 15 saloon and 148 steerage passengers, including 67 Chinese and 356 tons of cargo for all ports. Passengers for Dunedin ; —OB in the steerage, and 217 tons of cargo. She leaves at daylight to-morrow. A strong head wind is blowing just now (4 p.m.) Melbourne, Oct. 20.

Commercial. — Flour, LI 5 10s to LI6. Wheat, 7s 3d. Oats, dull of sale at os 3d. Candles, firm at 10|d. There have been speculations in sugar. Teas are dull of sale ; as is also maize, at 4s lid.

Parliament met on the 19th. Mr M'Culloch expressed his intention to offer no factions opposition to the new Government.

Rain fell all over the Colony for forty-eight consecutive hours. The ship Victoria Tower, eighty-five days out from Liverpool, was wrecked at Bream Creek on the night of the 16th. The passengers and crew were saved, and hopes are entertained of recovering the cargo. Mr Cleeland’s racing mare Shenandoah is dead.

Herr Bandmann’s performance of Shylock is pronounced a great success.

The Melbourne Hunt Club’s races were held on the IGth. Barb won the Club Cup, and Reindeer the national steeplechase. Mr Jenncr represents the Ministry in the Council, Sydney, Oct. 19. Adelaide flour sells here at L 1.5. The Government have prevented the Orange and Fenian demonstrations propose to be held at Clontarf. Fleming, the scene : painter, committed suicide. Government proposes repealing the newspaper postage. Palmer has been convicted of the murder of Halligan, the gold buyer. Sentence of death was passed upon him. The Faraway, from San Francisco, brings 18000 quarter-sacks of flour. California advices state that the Sarah Maria was loading wheat for Dunedin. Adelaide, Oct. 19. Corn market dull, wheat 5s lOd. Parliament will be prorogued next week.
